·                 To strengthen and prepare the skin in advance of invasive, ablative and resurfacing procedures

·                 In combination with any existing treatment to enhance and accelerate results

·                 A post treatment solution to minimise trauma and calm post treatment redness and inflammation

·                 An on-going maintenance treatment to further improve and maintain the skin

The Dermalux protocols are easy to integrate and can be adapted to address the requirements of each individual client.

LED Phototherapy Pre Treatment

Good skin preparation is essential for successful clinical outcomes to help minimise and prevent against the risk of adverse or extended side effects such as pigmentation, vascular damage, scarring and slow healing.

LED Phototherapy is an effective treatment to prepare the skin for invasive procedures especially for treatments that result in inflammation, removal of epidermal layers and scar tissue formation.

It is clinically proven to increase resiliency and immunity of the skin and also ensure that the cells are fuelled with a ready supply of energy (ATP) to manufacture fibre production at optimal levels enabling the healing process to be accelerated.

Applying LED Phototherapy as a pre-treatment procedure will benefit all skin types and conditions and is particularly beneficial for compromised skin or skin that presents as sensitive or reactive.

The recommended pre-treatment course will be dependent upon findings during the consultation stage. Generally a course of 4 to 6 treatments 1 to 2 weeks in advance of more invasive procedures is advised and this can be adapted depending on the skin type and condition. Darker skins and skins that are considered high risk for adverse side effects may benefit from a longer preparation period.

LED Phototherapy as a Combination Treatment

As LED phototherapy is non-invasive, non-ablative and does not produce heat or create trauma to the skin, it is safe to combine with any existing skin treatment for enhanced and accelerated results. It is particularly effective when applied immediately following resurfacing procedures such Skin Peels and Microdermabrasion where the superficial layers of the epidermis are removed allowing the beneficial light to penetrate deeply and not reflected by the proteins in dead skin cells.

In combination with procedures such as Skin Needling, Laser and IPL, Fractional CO2 / Ablative Laser Resurfacing, Radio Frequency and Injectable treatments, photochemical reactions in the skin stimulated by LED phototherapy will offer such benefits as calming post treatment erythema  and inflammation, counteracting dehydration, helping to prevent breakouts or infection, drastically relieving pain, minimising bruising and accelerating healing.

Furthermore, bespoke or ‘deluxe’ LED treatments can be created that are tailored specifically to the clients concerns incorporating a selection of topical products and treatment modalities.

The combined application of LED Red and/or LED Near Infra-Red with LED Blue Phototherapy should be applied immediately following an invasive skin treatment. The dose can be determined by the client's skin at that time.

LED Phototherapy Post Treatment

An understanding of the wound healing process and how the skin responds to trauma and inflammation is vital to ensure an optimal healing environment to assist in the prevention of delayed or poor tissue repair and ensure the best possible treatment outcomes.

Following any procedure that results in trauma to the skin, the healing process cannot occur until the inflammation stage has come and gone. This typically lasts up to 3 days. Although inflammation cannot be prevented, the healing process can be accelerated with the application of LED Phototherapy. Applying the treatment immediately post treatment and in the days following will limit response to the inflammation to ensure better and faster recovery.

LED Phototherapy is an important component in controlling excess inflammation by increasing lymphatic activity to remove cell debris and waste products and relieve edema and swelling.  It increases angiogenesis (formation of new capillaries) to bring blood flow and supply oxygen and nutrients to new and healing cells and also increases the ATP (cell energy) levels to ensure cells are fuelled for optimal healing.

This in total translates into enhanced cellular metabolism and proliferation. Cell proliferation is an increase in the number of cells as a result of cell growth and cell division. Additionally the improvement of these functions will cause RNA and DNA synthesis in cells to be increased improving the reproduction of healthy cells. Essentially LED Phototherapy energises cells to heal quicker and rejuvenate faster.

Treatment with LED phototherapy Red and/or Near Infra-red in combination with Blue light should be applied immediately following an invasive treatment or onset of acute inflammation as any disruption to the superficial layers of the epidermis can leave it susceptible to infection. Blue light can minimise this risk, Red and Near Infra-red light will enable a quicker response by the tissues to the stages of inflammatory response and help in the prevention of pigmentation.

This should be followed with a second treatment within 48 hours. Further treatments can be recommended at 48 hour intervals dependent upon the extent of inflammation and disruption to the superficial layers. A follow up course of treatments will increase the skins response to inflammation and aid increased production of strong healthy dermal fibres to minimise scar tissue formation.

LED Phototherapy as an On-going Maintenance Treatment

A course of treatment will build strength and resistance in the skin offering preventative and corrective results over time. To maintain the results of other skin treatments or through LED Phototherapy as a standalone procedure, a maintenance programme is recommended on a monthly basis.  Further courses of treatment can be taken intermittently as and when required, in accordance with the individual client’s skin concerns.

LED Phototherapy can be used on an on-going basis without limit to further improve and maintain the skin and should form part of every professional skin care programme for your clients.
